Welcome to The Fort
The Fort is a counseling practice intentionally built to hold space for the tender and powerful work of
[ individuals ] , [ couples ], and [ athletes ] who want to heal, grow, discover hidden strengths, and bring those strengths forth in their relationships, sport and life.
Founded on a vision of true transformation for the greater good, The Fort offers a space of belonging, connection, and safety—a place to be fully seen, work through what has shaped you, and become
more fully yourself.Why The Fort?
Fortify comes from the Latin fortis, meaning strong. But strength isn't simply about pushing through.
Sometimes strength looks like asking for help, becoming curious about your story, allowing yourself to heal, or having the courage to become more fully yourself.
Healing and freedom are essential to creating good in the world. When we have the safety to heal and the freedom to live authentically, we are better able to bring our strengths, gifts, and relationships into the world in meaningful ways.
That belief is at the heart of The Fort.
Meet Liz
Liz Howerth, M.A., LMHC, EMDR Trained
Liz Howerth is a counselor specializing in EMDR and trauma healing, working with individuals and couples through trauma, grief, relational struggles, identity, and life transitions.
Liz believes that strength isn't simply about pushing through. Sometimes healing means allowing ourselves to be known, asking for support, and coming as we are. Her hope is that through healing, we can reconnect with who we are, live more fully, and carry that authenticity into our relationships, communities, and the world.
An NAIA Hall of Fame athlete, Liz brings together clinical training and lived experience to create a counseling space grounded in hope, healing, courage, and authenticity. She is committed to providing an affirming, supportive space for people of all backgrounds, including LGBTQIA+ individuals and couples.
Her own journey through high-level athletics, life in different cultures, and seasons of personal growth and healing continues to shape the way she works—with curiosity, compassion, and deep respect for each person's unique story.
